Traffic jams

0 77

Huge traffic jams were witnessed on city roads on Saturday when most of the schools and offices are closed.  The authorities who diverted the traffic from other roads in the city due to stone pelting and clash with police by SC /ST Federation demanding quota at Indira Chowk , however, had not taken adequate measures of tackling the total mess that prevailed. With failure of the government to find an everlasting solution to the problem, the city has been facing traffic chaos everyday at one point or the other.  Blame authorities, not developing infrastructure in proportion to the growing vehicle population, the large number of vehicles come to a standstill if a slight trouble begins at one corner of the city resulting in huge traffic jams of long duration putting people to hardships. Though at some points Traffic Police men were at work but in totality they have failed to show results due to increasing number of vehicles.  The efficiency with which the traffic cops regulate traffic during VIP movement was missing at many points and the common man left to their own destiny. This attitude of the police has to be changed and the traffic cops should be made accountable for any chaos on the roads. There is no check even on vehicles by Traffic Police especially matadors, some of which are run without papers as there is a nexus between the matador operators and Traffic Police. These matador drivers have maintained monopoly and stop their vehicle at any place where they like due to lack of check and action by Traffic Police on the same. This is also one of the causes of traffic jams in the City. Lack of road and civic sense with the road users with no regards to safety of self and others hampers the smooth flow of traffic, they hardly bother for the traffic cops on duty. Moreover, there is no check on plying of two wheelers by youth. Most of the roads are narrow and were built for skeletal traffic decades back and encroachments and no planning of the city has left hardly any space for sideways expansion. Government will have to think of some alternate transport system to curb the menace of traffic jams.
