The political controversy over the surgical strike against terrorists looks is not going to subside with each and every politician given a chance is trying to gain some mileage out of it. It appears the hype is created keeping the coming Uttar Pradesh elections and should not be used to gain politically out of the army action. Now if one sees post-Uri there has been a consistent rise in infiltration and militancy related incidents which otherwise should have been on the decline. The rise in terror incidents shows that coming days are going to see more action. From a strategic point of view, in the last 30 years when Pakistan has thrown cross border terrorism in all its worst form, India has done its best in this period. This is not an existential threat to India. This is something that can be managed, needs to be managed, needs responses, including military, diplomatic and other responses and to the extent that this government is now doing it publicly, is also following a policy of diplomatically isolating Pakistan for what it has done, is actually a continuing of existing policy, but taken further one more step. Though this is not a permanent solution, India will have to keep the army operations going against these terrorists training camps time to time so that it can work as deterrent against the growing threat to the security of the nation. Pressure has to be built so that Pakistan which supports the terror elements for action against India is forced to think twice before taking any step. . But ironically India gained more by its strategic self- restraint. What has made the difference to the whole game was that this government chose to go public thus creating a political controversy. Secrecy and silence would have been the best remedy. Now what is to be seen is the real test which would be the prevalence of peace on the Line of Control (LoC), with the decline in Pak-supported infiltration.
