Team Jammu demands probe by sitting judge in NIT unrest
STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Cautioning BJP leadership against turning NIT issue into an administrative problem, the Team Jammu on Sunday demanded judicial probe by a sitting Judge to fix responsibilities on the cops responsible for inflicting brutalities on the non-local students for hoisting National Tricolour and chanting pro-India slogans in the campus.
It was also demanded that judicial probe should be a time framed. Besides, certain faculty members of NIT, Kashmir who have been accused by striking students for harassing them should also be exposed and strict action be taken against the errant and guilty faculty members.
This demand was made during a rally that concluded at City Chowk, in the heart of the old city, which was addressed by prominent citizens and presidents of the bazaar associations. Parents of some Jammu based students, studying at NIT, Srinagar also joined the solidarity march.
To express solidarity with the agitating helpless students, to whom the Centre and State Government have thrown at the mercy of brutal cops, Team Jammu on Sunday organised a massive march in the city. The march started from the historical Mubarak Mandi complex and passed through different bazaars before culminating at City Chowk where the solidarity march was turned into a rally.
Bharat Mata Ki Jai and Hindustan Zindabad Zindabad repeatedly rented in the air as members of the Team Jammu shouted deafening slogans.
A large number of residents of walled city also joined the solidarity march.
Slogans were also shouted against Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh for taking direct confrontation with the nationalist students by trying to turn issue of “nation’s pride” into an administrative problem.
“NIT issue is not an administrative problem, only issue is to restore nation’s pride in the NIT campus. Students who dared to hoist National Flag were ruthlessly beaten by some black sheep in the J and K Police and National Flag was snatched from them”, said Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Chairman of the Team Jammu while addressing the rally.
“From the City Chowk, which is witness to many historical movements under the leadership of legends like Pandit Prem Nath Dogra, Vaid Vishno Dutt and Thakur Baldev Singh, I assure all nationalist NIT students that Jammu is with them in this cause”, Zorawar said and cautioned some political parties which are indulging in deceit tactics to divert the issue.
In an obvious reference towards Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh for trying to make it an administrative issue, Jamwal regretted that some self-styled nationalist people, for the lust of power, have brazenly bartered “nation’s pride”.
“Those who are bartering nation’s pride for their own petty personal interests would be listed in names of traitors”, he said, amid deafening anti Deputy Chief Minister slogans.
Chairman of the Team Jammu further warned that people of Jammu, who have a chequered history of sacrifices and struggles for national integration, would teach such leaders a lesson in the days to come.
Offering all kind to support to the brave students of NIT, Zorawar assured them that nationalist people of Jammu are with them. “Except some black-sheep, who have shamelessly sold their dignity for enjoying power, entire Jammu is with agitating students of NIT”, he assured and warned that very soon a movement will be launched in Jammu for the social boycott of these black-sheep.
