Tanish Club wins Pawan Memorial T20 title;Jammu possesses rich sports potential, youth require opportunities: Sham

AKHNOOR: Tanish Cricket Club clinched the Eighth Pawan Memorial Cricket T20 Tournament held under the banner of Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor at Government Higher Secondary School Ground, here on Tuesday.
In the final, played on Tuesday, Tanish Cricket Club defeated Singh Cricket Club by three wickets.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, Singh Cricket Club made 145 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Samadh played brilliant innings of 61 runs off just 42 balls while Sourav Singh and Jimmy contributed 21 and 13 runs respectively.
For Tanishta Club, Satish claimed three wickets, followed by Aman Singh, who bagged two. Raman and Vishavjeet shared apiece each.
Batting second, Tanish Cricket Club overhauled the total in just 16 overs making 147 runs for seven wickets. Satish played fine innings of 47-ball 55 runs while Minkal and Harsh contributed 26 and 21 runs respectively. For Singh Club, Arshad Sheikh was most successful bowler with three wickets while Irfan took two. Sourav and Rakesh took one wicket each.
For his all round performance of 55 runs and three wickets, Satish Kumar was declared Man of the Match. Sonu, who made 220 runs in the tournament, was named best batsman while Vinod Mangotra was adjudged best all rounder with five wickets and 223 runs in his account.
The final was officiated by Vikas Bali and Joginder Mangotra as Umpires while Ashwani Mangotra was Scorer.
In the final and prize distribution function, Senior Vice President Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) and former Minister, Sham Lal Sharma was the Chief Guest while Chairman Team Jammu and General Secretary Press Club Jammu, Zorawar Singh was the Guest of Honour.
They gave away the title trophy and cash prize of Rs 25,000 to winner team while the runners-up team got Rs 15,000 cash.
President, Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor, Sham Singh Langley and other members of Organising Committee were also honoured on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Sham Lal highlighted the requirement of holding such sports events to nurture the local talent and encourage sports activities in the State.
He said that Jammu youth were second to none in talent and determination and deserved the best facilities and avenues to hone their skills.
“You are our future and you have to lead from the front and show the way. Your skills and imagination hold key to the state’s prosperity” Sham told the youth while interacting with them.
He said Jammu possesses rich sports potential and youth require opportunities to prove their talent at the national level.
Former Minister said that it is immaterial who wins or loses, but participation in the games is important as it provides ample area for players to inculcate team spirit, discipline and zest to achieve the goal.
“Sports also provided opportunity to develop friendly relations with the people,” he said and emphasised the need for large scale participation of youth in sports activity.
Among others present were Chetan Wanchoo National Coordinator IYC and Spokesperson JK PYC, Subash Langer Convenor, Naresh Dutt AYC President Akhnoor, Aman Gupta ex-President Akhnoor, Dr Ramesh Kashav, Tilak Raj, Krishan Bakshi, Subash Langer, Kuldeep Kour, Bishan Mangotra, K.D Sharma, Om Mehta, Davinder Chanan, Raman Gupta, Aman Gupta, Naresh Dutt, Ashok Kumar, Shiv Parkash, Kewal Kumar, Vinod Kumar, Tinnu, D.N Abrol, Rahul Sharma and Ankush Sharma.
