The NIT Srinagar campus had witnessed clashes between local and non-local students over India’s defeat in the semi-final match in the World T20 tournament. It is almost a week the situation has not calmed down rather it looks it is going to be political football for everyone who matters. Whether India plays Pakistan or any other team, victory or defeat is matter of celebrations and confrontation. And last week incident too is on the same pattern. Raising anti-India temper and emotion is a very common thing in Kashmir. This has kept the politicians and the so-called Kashmir issue on the international platform. The clashes too look to have some ramification of that order. Playing on such bogus emotions have been a practice from years together. And in the melee educational institutions are the easy target for such machinations. Jammu as usual has reacted with its favourite move calling for a Bandh. Politically, Jammu’s reaction looks very mechanised one with no outcome this everyone knows. As far as the pro-India and nationalist parties are concerned they too are on a very weak turf. With ministry coming into existence after over three month’s political uncertainty most of the leaders from the region have kept silent and whatever the Bandh call it is from the parties those who are not in government. So much so of the logic. This is not that first time such an incident has taken place. Most of the students from outside have complained of a stifle atmosphere and any spark like last week incident works as a catalyst for enlarging the situation. Even some outstation students have alleged hands of staff members in instigating others and for worsening the situation. The simmering was on for the last one week and the authorities have taken the situation as normal. Any delay in checking the spread of the malady will have wider repercussion for which nobody else but the Govt of the day would be responsible. Can Mehbooba afford to have such a situation?
