NADAUNON: Shubham Pradeep Khajuria notched up an impressive hand of 68, while the bowlers struck at regular intervals to ensure Jammu and Kashmir’s thrilling four-run win over Haryana in Nadaunon Thursday. Haryana ended up with 152 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs, five short of the target.
After electing to bat, Jammu and Kashmir lost the wicket of Ahmed Bandy (15) in the fourth over. Shubham Khajuria and Ian Dev Singh Chauhan, however, shared an association of 59 for the second wicket to pilot Jammu and Kashmir to a relative position of strength. Chaitanya Bishnoi then dismissed Chauhan to lift the spirits of Haryana.
At a crucial stage of the match, Mithun Manhas (31 not out) compiled a useful hand and strung together a stand of 58 for the third wicket with Khajuria to propel J and K to 138. Despite Ashish Hooda prising out Khajuria, Jammu and Kashmir finished up with a competitive total of 156 for 3.
For Haryana, Shivam Chauhan (43) and Shubham Rohilla (28) made timely contributions to keep them in the hunt. At 107 for 3 after 15 overs, Haryana still had a chance of chasing down the target. However, Ram Dayal picked up a couple of wickets to dent their chances. Haryana were also not helped by the fact that three of their lower-order batsmen were run-out. Rajat Paliwal, the Haryana captain, cracked a valiant 31, but he couldn’t steer them home.
