NEW DELHI: Making a point about holding Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir amid flooding and ongoing rescue operations, the BJP’s senior leader Subramanian Swamy on Sunday demanded that President’s rule should be imposed in the State for a year.
Swamy, who is known for speaking his mind, said that for one year J&K should be under President’s rule and the elections should be held later.
Meanwhile, Election Commission is closely watching the situation and will take a call on Assembly polls in the state, due by the year end, once the waters recede.
The poll panel is in touch with the Met department to assess weather conditions in the coming months.
The legislative assembly of Jammu and Kashmir comprises 87 members. The last assembly elections were held in 2008. Presently, the state is being run by a National Conference-Congress alliance.
