Over Rs 22 lakh cash certificates, insurance policies recovered from EO’s residence

SRINAGAR: State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) on Thursday booked Chief Enforcement Officer (CEO), Enforcement Officer (EO) and the then Building Inspector of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) besides others for allowing construction of illegal structures without having requisite building permission from the competent authority and violation of land use by way of allowing commercial activity in residential area in gross violation to BOCA rules and regulations.
During searches at the residence of alleged accused, Chief Enforcement Officer, SMC, three cash certificates worth Rs. 22,84,672, three insurance policies, pass books and cheque books and other documents were recovered.
During a joint surprise check, it was revealed that Chief Enforcement Officer SMC, Farooq Ahmad Shah, Enforcement Officer SMC Mujeeb Hussain Sheikh Ward Officer 22 Karan Nagar Srinagar, Ab. Rashid Bhat then Building Inspector SMC by abusing their official position and in connivance with the beneficiaries namely Mohammad Yasin Beigh, Mohammad Sadiq Beigh, Najam-ud-din Beigh and Showkat Ahmad Beigh, sons of Mohammad Amin Beigh, resident of Karan Nagar and Khalida Begum, wife of Sona-Ullah Thakur, resident of Karan Nagar allowed raising of illegal structures and violation of land use in gross violation to BOCA rules. The omissions and commissions on the part of the above mentioned officers/officials of SMC Srinagar and the beneficiaries attract the provisions of offences punishable under Sections 5(1) (d) read with 5(2) P.C Act Svt. 2006 and 120-B of RPC. Accordingly a case vide FIR No. 20/2017 at Police Station VOK was registered and further investigation taken up.
During the course of investigation search warrants were obtained from the competent Court of law and accordingly searches were carried at the residential houses of the accused persons in association with the Ex-Magistrates provided by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar/Baramulla. During search at the residence of accused Chief Enforcement Officer SMC two sale deeds, partnership deed of land, building permission bearing No.172 of 2001, one FDR, seven vouchers of gold purchase, seven pass books, three cheque books and ATM cards were recovered.
Similarly, during the search at the residence of alleged accused Enforcement Officer SMC three cash certificates worth Rs. 22,84,672, three insurance policies, pass books and cheque books and other documents were recovered.
On the same analogy, a cash certificate worth Rs 25,000, four insurance policies, jewellery bills worth Rs 2,16,950 and other documents were recovered from the house of alleged accused Abdul Rashid Building Inspector SMC.
