JAMMU: Credited with undertaking massive rescue and relief operations in the worst flood-hit Kashmir Valley, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad will extensively tour and take stock of situation prevailing in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch tomorrow. He will be joined by senior Congress leader and incharge for Jammu and Kashmir, Ambika Soni and Pradesh Congress President Saif-ud-Din Soz.
The trio, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, will conduct aerial survey of Poonch, Surankote, Thanamandi and Nowshera to assess the losses caused by heavy rains, landslides and flash floods. They will also interact with affected people and discuss relief measures with the local administration. They will visit Srinagar next day to take stock of the situation.
Ghulam Nabi Azad had been camping in Srinagar and visiting inundated areas without security cover to help the people in distress. He had been instrumental in procuring 17 boats to ferry flood affected people from submerged localities to safety. Azad maintained a low profile and got engaged in rescue and relief operations in a big way during most testing times in Srinagar.
The effort put in by the former Chief Minister in saving precious lives failed to draw attention of a particular section of media, which is known for its bias against the Congress.
The media in Srinagar remained glued to non-entities and went ahead with its anti congress mindset, which failed in highlighting the Herculean task of Azad and congress volunteers.
