SKUAST-J to organize three days’ seminar from Jan 8

JAMMU: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) is organising Seventh National Seminar of the National Society for “Community Mobilization; for Sustainable Development” (Mobilization) on “Sustainable Rural Livelihood: Technological and Institutional Perspective” from 8th to 10th January, 2015 at Chatha.
This was informed by Dr. K.S Risam, Director Extension and Co-patron of the National Seminar Dr. J.P Sharma, President Mobilization/ Joint Director, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi and Dr. Rakesh Nanda, Organising Secretary of the seminar, in a press conference here on Wednesday.The Division of Agricultural Extension Education, SKUAST Jammu which is hosting the National Seminar, offers undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programmes to develop human resource in the field of extension education besides research and outreach engagements for the social benefit of farming community and line departments, informed Risam.
In the seminar, he said, the renowned agriculture scientists and former and present vice chancellors shall discuss and formulate the roadmap for futuristic agriculture extension models and approaches which will be primarily focusing on India’s small-holders farmers (with less than 2 hectare of farmland) and comprising of 78 percent of the country’s farmers.
The seminar shall comprise of six technical sessions namely Market Driven Farming System, Agribusiness, Rural Tourism and Capacity Development, Technologies for Stressed Agriculture and Role of Information Communication Technology in Agriculture, he told reporters.
He further informed that renowned scientist, Dr. P.L Gautam, former Chairperson, Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Rights Authority (PPVFRA), Government of India, will be the Chief Guest at the inaugural session, and Dr. P.K Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu will preside over the inaugural function.
The other eminent scientists participating in the seminar are Dr. A.K. Singh, Deputy Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Dr. G. Trivedi and Dr. A.G. Sawant, former Vice-Chancellors, besides Chief General Manager, NABARD.
About 300 delegates from research, academics and extension from all over India are participating in the National Seminar, he said.
The lead papers in different technical sessions will be presented by eminent scientists like Dr. M.S. Gill, former Director Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Dr. A.K. Singh, Deputy Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Dr. R.C. Aggarwal, Registrar General, PPVVFRA. A farmer scientist interaction is also being organised on January 9, 2015, he concluded.
