Sikh bodies condemn ban on media

JAMMU: Various Sikh organizations including Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), Sikh Intellectuals Circle J&K, International Sikh Federation and Sikh Students Federation strongly condemned imposition of ban on media in Kashmir and said freedom of press is under grave threat.
Senior Sikh leaders, Jaspal Singh Mangal, Narinder Singh Khalsa, Bhai Gurdev Singh, Ranjit Singh, Manmohan Singh, Bhai Ram Singh, Devinder Singh and Surinder Singh in joint press statement issued here on Tuesday, expressed their serious concern over the oppressive attitude of administration against press in Kashmir and said freedom to think and write is cornerstone of any democracy.
Sikh leaders said that on the one hand a dominant section of saffronized media has been left free to spread message of hatred against the people of Jammu and Kashmir and on the other hand local press of Kashmir who are projecting real picture of present in-human situation in Kashmir are being harassed and suppressed.
