AKHNOOR: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control and senior Congress leader, Sham Lal Sharma on Saturday emphasised the need for a secular and strong government in the State. He asked the people to support the Congress Party wholeheartedly to bring it into power for prosperous and vibrant Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a gathering of Congress workers at Akhnoor, the minister said that Congress has always worked for promoting the unity, integrity and communal harmony to keep all sections of the society united, which was mandatory for ensuring all round development in the country as well in Jammu and Kashmir.
Cautioning the people against the nefarious design of the disruptive forces like BJP,PDP and NC, the minister said that these political outfits have no specific agenda but just to misguide the people with hollow slogans. He asked the people to thwart the design of such parties and elect the government of secular character, which can do justice with all sections of the society and strengthening the social fabric, mutual brotherhood and communal harmony. The Congress is the only party which has secular credentials and believes in promoting the bonds of rich ethos of Indian multifarious society, he added.
Former Congress MP from Jammu-Poonch, Madan Lal Sharma also addressed the gathering and asked them to strengthen the hands of Congress Party and support the candidature of Sham Lal Sharma from the Akhnoor Constituency.
Several Sarpanchs, local Congress leaders and prominent personalities from Akhnoor Constituency including, Baldev Raj Sharma, Captain Nasib Singh, Pt. Mangu Ram Sharma, ZEO, Babu Ram, Raj Rani, Sham Lal Choudhary, Subash Langer and Madan Gupta Aman Gupta were present.
