JAMMU: Days after four Kashmiri youth snatched weapon from a police constable, in yet another bizarre incident, a suspected terrorist from the Kulgam district of Kashmir Province was on Thursday caught red handed stealing a car in broad day light at Raghunath Bazar area.
The suspected terrorist dared to steal the car parked inside the Hari Theatre Parking but fortunately, the ticket vendor at the parking site, observed his suspicious act and reacted swiftly.
He overpowered him while he was taking the car outside the parking site and when instead of moving towards the City Chowk area, the thief, turned wrong side towards Raghunath Temple and stuck in the jam.
“The moment he turned the car towards the Ragunath temple, an Army gypsy coming from opposite direction, stuck him up in the main market,” said an eye witness.
The accused has been identified as Afroz Ahmed Bhatt (32), resident of Main Road, Doder Koot, Kulgam.
A day after senior police officers claimed to have successfully solved the sensational case of weapon snatching another interesting case of car theft came to light which has alerted local police authorities to carry out thorough probe whether these two isolated incidents have any common link or not?
They further added that the local shopkeepers and traders assembled near the car and thrashed him on the spot. He was later handed over to the police.
According to sources, the car lifting incident is being viewed by intelligence agencies seriously especially in view of upcoming visit of PM Narendra Modi to inaugurate Nashri tunnel here. They are working on finding whether there is any connection between the recent weapon snatching case by Kashmiri youth and today’s abortive car lifting attempt.
Meanwhile the local businessmen have rued the act saying that it cannot be ignored as a small incident because in case the man had succeeded in stealing the vehicle, it might have been used in some subversive activity in the city.
“Police must find out whether the accused was a regular offender or it was for the first time he indulged into the activity as it is a matter of concern for people of Jammu,” they asserted.
