RVC celebrates 236th Corps Day

UDHAMPUR: The Remount Veterinary Corps, one of the oldest services of the Indian Army, celebrated its 236th Corps Day at HQ Northern Command on Sunday.
The RVC has a glorious past and a scintillating present with track-record of relentless service in shaping animal health standards, nursing care and their operational preparedness. The rich heritage and the pursuit of excellence in all fields of management, treatment, deployment, research and engagement in foreign missions, have made RVC one of the most valuable service of the Indian Armed Forces.
The RVC is the premier agency in breeding of quality dogs and their training. In Northern Command these dogs are noted for performing guarding, tracking, mine detection, explosive detection, search and rescue, avalanche rescue and Infantry patrolling duties.
The RVC in Northern Command in collaboration with DRDO have a breeding project of Zanskar Pony (Animal Transport). These ponies are being trained and inducted in Ladakh Scouts. The RVC plays a significant role in quality control of food of animal origin for troops. The corps also provides technical expertise in the form of treatment, breeding and management of Military Farm animals thereby providing wholesome milk to the troops.
The spirit of RVC is reflected in their motto of ‘Pashu Seva Asmakam Dharmah’ and the corps has a record of outstanding contribution in all operations.
Lt Gen D.S Hooda, GOC-in-C (Army Commander) Northern Command complimented all ranks of Army Veterinary Corps for their dedication, high degree of professionalism in performing their duties in difficult and inhospitable terrain conditions in the Northern Command.
