Rs 39,800 penalty imposed on erring traders

KATHUA: A team of Legal Metrology Department Kathua headed by Assistant Controller Legal Metrology, Ajay Verma with Inspector Legal Metrology, Vicky Sharma and Inspector Legal Metrology Dayalachack Devi Lakhanpuria as its other members conducted checking of various business establishments especially sweet, bakery and confectionary shops, provision stores, hardware stores, flour mill at Main Bazaar, Jarai Road, College Road, Patel Nagar, Gandhi Chowk, Hatli Morh, Railway Road, Industrial Area, Kathua ,Banhore, Dhamlar and adjoining areas during the current week of this month.
During Inspection, a total of 22 traders including sweet sellers were booked for violation of various provisions of J and K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 1997and Package Commodities Rules. Besides, 21 Challans were compounded and a penalty of Rs 16,500 was imposed on the erring traders.
The department also inspected various provisional stores and booked Armella Cocoa Hazelnut and Vanilla Flavor Cream manufacturer, a Delhi based Company, in one of the provision store for non declaration of MRP on the package meant for Diwali gift. A notice was issued to the company through local dealer to attend the office of the Controller Legal Meteorology.
Meanwhile, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department led by Assistant Director, T.P Singh inspected 41 shops of Karyana, sweets, mutton/chicken, hotels and vegetables.
The teams booked the defaulters under LPG/Display Prices Act and imposed a penalty of Rs. 23,300 on them.
Whereas, on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Samba, S. Charanjeet Singh Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ghagwal along with enforcement team comprising representative of legal metrology, food inspector and TSO inspected the market of Ghagwal town and issued on spot instructions for maintaining the quality of food items, display of rate list throughout the area.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate along with team also raided a rented house of Kewal Sharma where adulterated sweets approximately two quintal of Ladoo/Rasgullas were destroyed and fine imposed. Sub-Divisional Magistrate said the checking process shall continue in future also.
