KATHUA: On the directions of District Development Commissioner, Kathua, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudary, a team of Legal Metrology Department Kathua under the supervision of the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Kathua Ajay Verma conducted intensive checking of various business establishments especially provisional stores, Karayana stores, ration depot, sweet and utensil shops, goldsmiths ,veg./fruit sellers, cloth shops, scrap dealers, fertilizer dealers, dispensing units, welding shops, manufacturers/ packers at main Bazar Kathua, Chack Desa Singh, Parliwand , Patel Nagar, College Road, Hatli Morh , Kalibari Nagri, Sheehdi Chowk, Dayala Chack, Chadwal, Chandwah, Chappaki, Subechack, Chan Arrorian, Hiranagar and adjoining areas.
The team comprising Inspector Legal Metrology Kathua Vicky Sharma and Dayala Chack, Devi Lakhanpuria booked 34 traders for violation of various provisions of J and K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 1997and Package Commodities Rules. Besides, 28 Challans of booked traders were compounded and penalty of Rs 27,600 was imposed on them.
The department also booked one Garam Masala Company for violation of various provisions of J and K Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 1997 and Package Commodities Rules. The company admitted its fault and assured to rectify the defective packing in future, the case was compounded by the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Kathua for Rs 10,000.
Besides, the department directed all the traders to use only verified weights and measures for business transactions and display MRP, PKD, Net Contents and complete address and consumer care number on the commodities to be sold in package form.
KISHTWAR: In wake of upcoming festivals of Eid ul Zuha and Dushera, a team of officers headed by SDM Chatroo, Kartar Singh conducted checking of main market Chatroo today.
Tehsildar Chatroo G. N Malik, SHO Rajinder Sharma and TSO Chatroo Tariq Munshi accompanied the SDM.
During the checking, the team noticed violations like non display of rate lists, overcharging and un hygienic food items in some shops. A fine of Rs. 3,500 was realised from the defaulters on the spot. Besides, the team also destroyed rotton vegetables, fruits and other eatables in the market. Strict instructions have been given to the defaulters to maintain standard hygiene in their shops and sell fresh and quality vegetables in the market on reasonable rates.
Later, the SDM held meeting with Traders’ Association Chatroo and asked them to cooperate in checking market violations for the benefit of local people.
After the meeting, the team also inspected various schools of the sub division and took stock of sanitation and other activities.
