Road Safety Week: seminar, awareness camp organised

REASI: As a part of the observance of Road Safety Week, seminar and awareness camp was organised by Traffic Police Reasi at General Zorawer Singh Degree College Reasi. Leaflets were also distributed by Traffic staff and Motor Vehicle Department Reasi at various junctions to spread road safety awareness among the drivers/riders.
The topic of seminar was ‘Traffic Management and Critics to the Functioning of Traffic Police’.
Students also spoke on importance of wearing seatbelt to decrease road carnage, young road users are the ones who are risk takers, and the impact made by road safety education and law enforcement.
“This is the beginning of their journey; we want to see road safety ambassadors in them”, said Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic NHW-Sanjay Kotwal, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Kotwal further said that he believed that increased awareness on road safety among the students would contribute towards enhancing road safety and thus reduce accidents which continue to claim lives on the roads.
ARTO Reasi-Rajesh Gupta, DySP Traffic, Ram Singh called upon the students to spread message of road safety among their friends, near and dear ones.
Participants were awarded with the prizes. GM DIC-Krishan Lal, CDPO-Pritam Lal, DTI-Vikas Dogra, Principal of College- Prof Koshal Samotra , large number of students and staff members were also present on the occasion
KISHTWAR: The Motor Vehicle Department in collaboration with Jungalwar based Rashtriya Rifles and Distt Hospital Kishtwar organised a free medical camp at Bus Stand Kishtwar which was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Mohammad Javed Khan. Doctors from army along with Health Department carried out medical checkup of local drivers and conductors. The eye sight check up of local drivers was also carried out and medicines were distributed to the patients. The aim of this medical camp was to spread awareness among drivers about personal health and hygiene along with medical check up.
ARTO Kishtwar Azhar Amin Zargar thanked all the participants for successfully holding the camp.
POONCH: Motor Vehicle Department Poonch in collaboration with District Police organised a rally in connection with 26th Road Safety Week 2015.
Flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner, Poonch, M.H Malik from Girls Higher Secondary School, the rally comprising of students of different educational institutions culminated at Sports Stadium Poonch.
Addressing the students at GHSS Sheesh Mahal, the DC highlighted the importance of following traffic rules and the necessity of inculcating the theme of Road Safety Week as a way of life.
Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Shafiq Ahmed Choudhary, ASP, Amit Gupta, ARTO, Verinder Manyal, DySP HQ, Deepak Digra, Principal GHSS Sheesh Mahal, Riaz Mir were present on the occasion.
SUNDERBANI : A traffic awareness camp was organised at bus stand Sunderbani by ARTO Rajouri Shammi Sharma on Wednesday in which a large number of drivers, conductors and general public participated.
14JAMHSUNDERBANI2.The ARTO in his address said that 80 per cent of the accidents on roads are due to the negligence on the part of vehicle operators and the use of alcohol is the root cause of the careless driving. Disclosing the figures of deaths during accidents, he said that 1.37 lakh people died in road accidents in 2014 all over the country. He expressed his concern over the careless driving of two wheelers in which the nation lost 17,000 youths last year. He appealed to the parents not to allow minors to drive two wheelers without driving license. He asked the bike riders not to drive or ride the bike without a helmet.
SHO Sunderbani Naresh Kumar Sharma in his address said that police will take serious notice of the negligent driving particularly the driving after drinks and will book the operators under section 302 RPC in the case of a death of any passenger.
DODA: In continuation with the celebration of 26th Road Safety Week-2015, free medical camps were organised at Doda town, Bhadarwah, Thatri and Gandoh areas by Motor Vehicles Department (Doda) in collaboration with Traffic Police NHW and Medical Department Doda.
While inaugurating the medical camp at Doda, Chief Medical Officer Doda, Mohammad Yaqoob Mir highlighted the importance for maintaining proper health by the drivers. He advised all the persons in general and driver community in particular to undergo regular medical checkups as their healthy body and mind is necessary for safe transportation of the passengers.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Doda Ravi Shankar, Inspector DTI Doda, G.H Kamaal, doctors, para-medical staff of District Hospital Doda among others were present on the occasion during the inauguration ceremony.
UDHAMPUR: As a part of ongoing Road Safety Week, ARTO Udhampur Neeraj Sharma organised a free medical checkup camp in collaboration with Health Department in Udhampur.
ARTO Neeraj Sharma along with CMO inaugurated the free medical camp amidst crowd of staff of MVD, vehicle operators and local people. In camp team of doctors examined more than hundred people including vehicle operators ailing from different diseases and took blood samples for diagnosis. People were also provided free checkup and Medicare facilities. DySP Gourav Gupta, staff members of MVD, DTI Sunil Sharma, SHO Udhampur were also present.
