Road Safety Week; awareness camps, contests continue

RAMBAN: As part of the ongoing 28th Road Safety Week, an awareness camp was organised by the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) in collaboration with Traffic Police, local police and the administration.
During the camp, the ARTO educated the drivers, cleaners and local residents regarding the Traffic Rules and Regulations and stressed upon them for strict adherence to the same.
UDHAMPUR: A series of activities like symposium, painting and debate competitions were organised by the Motor Vehicle Department to mark the 28th Road Safety Week.
Students from various educational institutions participated in different activities which were being organised for creating awareness about road safety among the students.
Stressing on the importance of changing the attitude of the children and young people towards safety on road, SP Dr. Shailendra Mishra ,who was Chief Guest on the occasion, informed that the road accidents are the biggest cause behind the deaths of young people worldwide and emphasised that the young drivers must obey traffic rules and take safety measures while driving.
Later, the Chief Guest felicitated the winners of different competitions by distributing prizes among them.
Among others, PO DRDA Dr. Jagdish Mehra, Chief Education Officer Bishan Singh, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Sanjeev Kumar, Principal Rama Raina besides other district officers, teachers and a large number of students attended the programme.
SAMBA: A valedictory function was organised by Motor Vehicles Department as the district level programmes under 28th Road Safety Week concluded on Saturday. Deputy Commissioner Samba, Sheetal Nanda was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
SSP, Joginder Singh, ADDC, Vivek Sharma and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
The DC said that sole dependence on enforcement agencies for compliance of Road Safety Rules is not feasible and stressed upon social awareness regarding following of these rules and showing consideration towards fellow cyclists, motorists and pedestrians. She said that reckless driving and over speeding are the main factors for accidents among youth so it should be checked.
SSP gave details about road incidents in the district during last year and informed that out of 700 FIRs in the district during last year, 300 pertained to road accidents in which more than 70 persons lost their lives.
Earlier, ARTO, Er. Kuldeep Singh informed about the activities undertaken by MVD during the week long campaign. On the occasion, prizes were distributed among winners of the symposium held during the celebration.
The students namely Kriti Lakhotra,Kanika Sharma and Taruna Thappa were the first prize winners while Karan Mangotra, Tanya Sharma, Shivali Rajput and Minakshi Sharma were second prize winners and the third prize was bagged by Kanika Sharma, Munish Shehri, Simran Chowhan, Priyanka Bhagat , Shweta Sharma, Swati Sambyal and Alka Sharma in their respective categories. Besides, consolation prizes were also announced for Shilpa Sharma, Simran Mehra, Karan Sharma and Simran Sharma.
DODA: As part of ongoing celebration of 28th Road Safety Week-2017, a painting competition was organised by Motor Vehicles Department at Boys Higher Secondary School Doda. Momin Islami of Shaheen Public HSS Doda was adjudged as winner whereas Iqra Balwan of Shaheen Public HSS Doda and Hamid Indrabi of Chenab Valley Public School Doda were awarded second and third prize respectively.
Among the students who participated in the debate competition, Dheeraj Rakwal of Shaheen Public HSS Doda, Sofiya Ashraf and Amaan Batt of Chinab Valley Public School Doda were adjudged as first, second and third respectively. ADC Mohammad Hanief Malik, who was Chief Guest on the occasion, stressed upon the participants to observe strict adherence to traffic rules and apprise the public to brief others also on various road safety issues.
Commanding Officer 10 RR Atul Vikram Singh, Principal HSS Boys Doda Tanveer Ahmed, ARTO Zubair Ahmed, DySP Traffic Aftab Bukhari, Cultural Officer Salah-ud-din, AD Planning Ranjeet Kumar besides others were present on the occasion.
Later, trophies were distributed among the winners and participants by the Chief Guest.
