Removed DRDO chief to bring in younger Scientist: Defence minister Manohar parrikar
NEW DELHI: The government today defended its surprising move to sack top missile scientist Avinash Chander as the chief of the Defence Research and Development Organisation or DRDO.
“I recommended this. We didn’t want somebody on contract to be in such a senior post,” Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar told reporters.
He added that a “younger scientist” would take over as chairman of the country’s main defence research organization.
Mr Chander’s contract, extended in November to May 2016, was terminated yesterday. On Wednesday, he came to work as usual, saying he has received no official notice on his sacking, which was cleared by an appointments panel led by PM Modi.
