Red Cross imparts first aid training to lecturers, PETs

JAMMU: The four days First Aid training Course organised by Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Jammu Region under the aegis of St. John Ambulance (India), Regional Centre, concluded on Thursday at Red Cross Bhawan, here.
The training was started on July 31 in which 25 lecturers and Physical Education Teachers (PETs) took part. The training was imparted with the sole motto to train lecturers/physical education teachers of government schools of border districts of Jammu Division in order to save the precious lives during untoward incidents happenings in schools as well as on borders.
The training was imparted by the Sr. Consultants namely Casualty Medical Officer (CMO, Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, Dr. Rajinder Thappa, Consultant Anesthetist of Red Cross Society, Dr. Ranbushan Singh, Ortho Suregion, Dr. Vikrant Sharma, Dr. M.L Sharma (Retd) DMO and Dr. Rashmi Sharma, Medical Officer, Red Cross Dispensary, Jammu whereas Dr. Kavita Nijohn, Medical Officer, Red Cross Dispensary, Jammu conducted the exam assisted by Kanchan Devi Sup. Pharmacist and Joginder Kumar Pharmacist.
Senior Cardiologist (Retd.), Dr. Mohan Lal was the Chief Guest on the occasion, who impressed upon the trainees about cardio diseases and the first aid precautions.
While delivering a motivational lecture on the subject, R.C Puri, Honourary Secretary, IRCS, Jammu Region emphasised for making the first aid as mass movement and compulsory in school curriculum.
CMO Dr. Rajinder Thappa while interacting with trainees said, “The first aid is an important skill that helps to reduce fatalities and enables the faster treatment of injuries. It also has an important role to play in providing staff and pupil with sense of purpose and achievements giving them skill that will potentially save lives.”
The First Aid knowledge is invaluable for both as individual and for the community, he added.
Prominent among those who were present include Sita Ram Sharma, Dinesh Gupta and S.C Bali, Members, Executive Committee of IRCS, Jammu Region.
