RAJOURI: The Press Club, Rajouri, a first of its kind initiative at District Headquarters will start functioning from November 5, 2017. District administration has put in place all requisite arrangements for making this institution functional.
Deputy Commissioner, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary finalised the arrangements for inauguration and launching of the Press Club in a meeting of officers attended by Asstt Commissioner Development Noor Alam, Asstt Commissioner Revenue Abdul Qayoom Mir, DIO Shafait Ahmed, DSWO Dr Abdul Khabir and other senior officers from various departments.
The Press Club completed in a record time of four months has a Press Conference Hall, Meeting Room, Common Room, Gymnasium, IT Cell, Library and outdoor sports as a part of the plan apart from other facilities. It will also be provided all the requisite audio-visual aids for equipping it on modern lines. Power supply and water supply has also been ensured and efforts are on establishment of a model pantry on outsourcing basis.
DDC Rajouri Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary informed that the Press Club Rajouri has been designed as an Institute of Development Studies which will go a long way in strengthening the fourth pillar of democracy in twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch apart from providing a professional atmosphere and platform for exchange of knowledge, ideas and plans.
According to Chief Organiser of the Press Club Varinder Malhotra though the print and electronic media had been demanding the press club in the district for the last more than two decades, but it was none other than the present DDC Rajouri Choudhary Shahid Iqbal who endorsed the demand and initiated action in this direction.
The members of the club hailed the efforts of DDC Rajouri and thanked him for creating this press club which will be formally inaugurated by the FCSCA Minister and handed over to the press on November 5, 2017.
