NEW DELHI: Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday reviewed the security situation in violence-hit Kashmir Valley and along the Indo-Pak border areas in the state where several infiltration attempts have been made in the recent past.
Top officials, including Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and chiefs of intelligence agencies, briefed the Home Minister on the prevailing situation in the state and the steps taken to maintain law and order.
Kashmir Valley has been on edge for 53 days following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani on July 8.
The meeting had a discussion on the report of a committee which suggested alternatives to pellet guns, often used in the Valley for controlling crowds.
However, no decision has been taken on it, sources said. The Home Minister was also briefed about the situation along the border where there have been several attempts of infiltration by militants from across the border, they said.
