Protests against imposition of Excise Duty on jewellery continue

JAMMU/ NEW DELHI: Around 25,000 jewellery shops including showrooms across the State remained closed for the 18th consecutive day in protest against imposition of one per cent excise duty on the gold ornaments.
With the closure of the jewellery shops, not only the owners but the employees and the people are facing hardships.
Large number of jewellers held protest here amidst slogans in favour of their demands and warned of dire consequence, if the government failed to revoke its decision at the earliest. Later, in one voice, all the jewellers unanimously decided to go on indefinite strike till the Government revokes its decision of imposing one per cent excise duty on gold ornaments.
Meanwhile, jewellers from across the nation held a rally at Delhi’s Ramleela Ground, on the second day on Friday.
Members of Swarnkar Sangh J and K led by its President Raj Kumar also participated in the rally at Ramleela Ground.
