POONCH : A large number of protesters led by President Sanatan Dharam Sabha Poonch Satish Sassan on Friday blocked the Jammu – Poonch National Highway against failure of the district administration and police authorities to recover the kidnapped girl and arresting the kidnapper during last 20 days. The protesters staged a sit-in (Dharna) at 9:00 AM which continued up to 1:20 PM.
According to the protesters a girl of minority community was kidnapped by one Mohd Altaf son of Mohd Nazir resident of Ward No 13, Poonch three weeks back and an FIR 118/14 under section 366/109 RPC was registered at Police Station Poonch but no action has been taken by police to recover the girl and arrest the kidnapper in spite of repeated promises. The protesters alleged that the police is moving softer in the case and thus failing to fulfill their responsibilities.
The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Poonch Mohd Hussain Malik, SSP Shamsheer Hussain Choudhary and ACR Shafiq Ahmed reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesters. They said that the parents of the kidnapper have already been rounded up and due to non-availability of communication system the progress in the case got delayed. They assured the protesters that the girl will be recovered soon and the kidnapper put behind bar at the earliest.
On the assurance of DDC and SSP the protesters lifted Dharna after four hours.
