Police attach illegal properties worth Rs. 24 lakhs of notorious drug peddler in Baramulla

BARAMULLA: Continuing their crackdown against drug peddlers, Baramulla police have seized  properties worth around Rs. 24.00 lakhs of notorious drug peddlers, residents of BasgranUri, Baramulla district, police said.The drug peddler was identified as Mohd Zahid Shah (Geelani), son of Peer Hussain Shah.

“The action was taken under Sections 68-E and 68-F (1) of the NDPS Act of 1985 and is linked with case FIR No. 54/2022 u/s 8/21 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 of PS Uri,” further said police.

A Police spokesperson said, “Continuing its action against drug peddlers, Police in Baramulla attached 3 vehicles illegal properties (2 i20 bearing registration No. JK01AK-2765 & JK05G-5682,Scooty bearing registration number JK05G-0116 worth approx. Rs 12.00 lacs) belonging to notorious drug peddlers namely Mohd Zahid Shah (Geelani) son of Peer Hussain Shah resident of Basgran Uri, Ahtishamud Din Khan son of Bashir Ahmad resident of Ladoora Rafiabad & Reyaz Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Hassan resident of Batangi Boniyar.”

The property was identified as illegally acquired during an investigation and inquiry conducted by the police. The property was prima facie acquired from illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances by the drug peddler, the police further added.

Earlier, the Baramulla police attached properties worth around Rs 15 lakh belonging to a drug peddler in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Thursday.

The drug peddler whose properties were seized was identified as Afroza Begum resident of the Trumgund Hygam Sopore area in Baramulla district.

“Continuing its action against drug peddlers, Police in Baramulla attached properties (Single storied residential house worth approx. Rs. 15.00 lacs) belonging to notorious drug peddlers namely Afroza Begum @ Affri wife of Fayaz Ahmad Dar resident of Ganie Hamam at present Trumgund Hygam Sopore, District Baramulla,” Baramulla police stated. Meanwhile Baramulla police said ,Continuing its action against drug menace, 39 cases have been registered so far under NDPS act, arrested 62 drug peddlers which include 7 hard-core drug peddlers who have been booked under PIT NDPS & attached properties/ vehicles which includes 3 residential house & 1 shopping complex, 2- i20 cars & 1- Scooty belonging to drug peddlers worth 1.1 Crores in Baramulla district during the months of January & February-2024.  Police have also recovered contraband & psychotropic substances worth 35.02 lacs (value of contraband in black market).This operation reaffirms the commitment of the police to combat the drug menace. Local people of the area hailed the initiative of the police.
