Plight of cricket fan

0 80

Dear Editor,
That sport must stand above all discriminations is the one of the Olympic ideals but it does not seem to be true as far as the case of a Pakistani cricket fan goes. History tells the sad story of endless repetitions of humanity’s foibles and this seems to apply to authorities in Pakistan who seem to have acted impulsively in arresting a citizen for showering praise on an Indian cricketer. One is reminded of the nationalistic feelings in the 1936 Olympics, of there being only one superior race and the surprise gesture by Luz Long of Germany who congratulated black American Jesse Owens when he defeated Luz in long jump. That is true sportsmanship. One hopes Pakistan learns lessons from this and sees to it that Umar Daraz is acquitted.
