PIL projecting dilapidated roads DB directs State to file status report

JAMMU: A Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar and Justice Janak Raj Kotwal on Wednesday issued notices to Chief Secretary J and K, Commissioner/Secretary PWD, Divisional Commissioners Jammu and Kashmir, Commissioner JMC, Commissioner SMC and Commissioner/Secretary PHE in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed for projecting dilapidated condition of roads of J and K, which were accepted by Deputy AG P.S Chandel. The DB also directed to file responses within three weeks’ time.
The Division Bench also directed them to file status report and ordered that in the meanwhile, wherever required necessary repair work shall be initiated to make the roads travel worthy.
The aforementioned PIL has been filed by Advocate Jasvinder Singh projecting that the roads in various Districts of Jammu and Kashmir including rural areas are mostly in dilapidated condition. It is pleaded that there are potholes and ditches which are not properly leveled and surfaced. It is also pleaded that no foot ways and foot paths existed along roads and wherever they exist they are in poor condition and encroached upon and it is further pleaded in the PIL that the proper technique in constructing and repairing of the roads is not being used and proper material has also not been used.
