JAMMU: The Kaam Chhoro Hartal of casual workers of the Power Development Department (PDD), demanding release of pending salaries, entered 51st consecutive day on Tuesday.
Under the banner of the J and K Casual Labourers Union, the protesting workers gathered at the Office of Chief Engineer, Bhagwati Nagar, here and raised slogans against the concerned department.
State President of the Union, Akhil Sharma alleged that the government had failed to meet their demands despite staging several rounds of protests in the past. They demanded release of pending wages from Wages Head, regularisation and insurance policies for workers, filling up the 5,000 posts which were sanctioned in the year 2010, ending discrimination with Jammu province workers and compensation to dead/handicapped workers. Jammu Province President, Shesh Kumar and Vice President, Sham Sharma also spoke on the occasion.
