JAMMU: Peeved over the fast deteriorating situation in J&K and failure of State Govt. to restore law and order, scores of JKNPP activists today led by Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP and Yash Paul Kundal State President Young Panthers staged a massive protest demonstration seeking dismissal of BJP-PDP Govt. and imposition of Governor Rule at Exhibition Ground Jammu today. The angry protestors raised slogans against the State govt. and torched its effigy for its gross failure on all fronts.
Expressing serious concern over the breakdown of political and administrative apparatus in the State for nearly four months which witnessed assault on Amar Nath Ji pilgrims, civil unrest, clashes, shut downs, public attacks on police stations and security forces in Kashmir, Harsh Dev Singh described the situation as conducive for imposition of Governor Rule. While addressing the media, he lampooned the govt. for having failed to respond appropriately to the situation created in the wake of killing of Hizb militant and the resultant turbulence witnessed in the valley.
He regretted that with over 90 people killed, 13,000 injured including the security personnel and nearly 30 schools set on fire, it was virtually a case of anarchy and lawlessness prevailing in Kashmir with no signs of government on the ground.
Alleging total collapse of law and order with the State government failing to address the grievances of the people in Jammu region, Harsh Dev Singh divulged that in the wake of worst ever Pak mortar shelling and firing all along the IB and LoC the residents of forward hamlets had suffered a huge loss of life, property, crops and cattle stock due to non provision of shelters at safer zones. He said that besides the repeated false promises of 5 Marlas of residential plots doled out by the State government to each family of border dwellers, no ex- gratia and the benefits of SRO 43 had been given to the NoK of the deceased persons. Likewise, the underemployed youth including the DRW’s and casual workers of PHE, PWD, M&RE, I&FC, Tourism, Health, Agriculture, Forest and other departments had been languishing in open for several months demanding release of long- pending wages, enhancement of salaries and regularization of their services but the State government had paid no heed to their miserable plight.
He said that the State had been witnessing both internal and external conflicts and the fast deteriorating situation had become worse than early nineties.
Among those who spoke on the occasion included Rajesh Padgotra, Sham Gorkha, Nirmal Kishore, Khajoor Singh, Arun Khajuria, Rashmikant Khajuria, Mohinder Singh, Kewal Krishan Sharma, Bishan Dass, Satvir Singh, Kailash Mohan, Udheyveer, Rakesh Verma besides others.
