Official sentenced for graft in kashmir corruption case bribeSrinagar: An anti-corruption court has sentenced a government official to one year imprisonment after finding him guilty of offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Kashmirm Yash Paul Bourney yesterday found Mohammad Subhan Shah, then accounts officer at Electric Commercial Division of Power Development Department, guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1000 from the complainant.

The court of special judge, Anti-corruption, Kashmir, found Shah guilty and sentenced him to one year imprisonment and fine of Rs 5000 for commission of offence under section 5(2) of J&K P C Act.

The accused was also sentenced to six months imprisonment for commission of offence under section 161 RPC. Both the sentences shall run concurrently.

A case was registered in 2005 based on complaint filed by Mohammad Amin Misger, the then senior Assistant in Electric Commercial Division of PDD at Basant Bagh here, a spokesman of the State Vigilance Organisation said.

During the course of investigation, the accused Accounts Officer was arrested by Vigilance Organization Kashmir while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1,000, the spokesman said.
