JAMMU: The allegations of outside players in MDU Rohtak team proved to be true after the jury committee found the visiting side guilty of including ‘fake’ students for better prospects in the ongoing North Zone Inter University Handball Championship hosted by University of Jammu on the campus grounds, here on Tuesday.
The subsequent scratching of the team by the panel constituted to probe the allegations from the competition benefited the host men’s team. The JU men’s team, which had lost in the quarter finals to MDU Rohtak on Monday, awarded berth in the league round of top four teams.
Pertinent to mention here that JU team management had lodged a protest with the organising committee alleging outside players in MDU Rohtak team.
“The allegations proved to be true with the result the MDU Rohtak team has been scratched. Since the team had little to explain, the contingent left Jammu this morning. Taking serious note of the incident, we have decided to dispatch MDU Rohtak the copy of the report submitted by the Jury Committee,” informed Organising Secretary and Director, Sports and Physical Education, JU, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau.
Soon after the decision, JU replaced MDU Rohtak in the already drawn fixture and managed a close win against Punjabi University Patiala 24-22. Panjab University Chandigarh also won their league tie in the men’s section played against Kurukshetra University 40-31.
