YOUTH CONGRESS PROTEST (1) STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: To lodge protest against failure of the State Government to protect students of NIT Srinagar from the brutality of J and K Police, scores of the activists of Youth Congress this afternoon Ghearoed official residence of Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh for endorsing cruelty of the police on students.
Although Youth Congress activists were arrested by the police before they stormed into the official residence of Deputy Chief Minister, they held demonstration outside the residence Dr Singh and blocked traffic on Talab Tillo road.
Youth Congress activists under the leadership of Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) Chief Pranav Shagotra gathered outside the residence of Deputy Chief Minister to lodge their protest because Deputy Chief Minister had endorsed police action on non-local students of NIT Srinagar, who were holding peaceful demonstration.
Shockingly over 100 students were injured in the unprovoked Lathi-charge and tear gasing by the J and K police but Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, who belongs to BJP, has termed this incident as minor and defended police for using brutal force against students.
Instead of condemning police action against peaceful students, Dr Nirmal Singh has defended the police and said that mild Lathicharge was used to disperse the students, they said.
Addressing the Youth Congress activists, Pranav Shagotra said that nationalism of BJP has been exposed because students were brutally beaten for hoisting national flag in the NIT campus but Deputy Chief Minister was shameless in defending police action.
He said that instead of acting as a representative of people, Dr Nirmal Singh is acting as spokesman of the police which treated highly educated students of NIT as criminals.
Shouting slogans against BJP in general and Deputy Chief Minister in particular, Youth Congress activists tried to enter the residence of Dr Singh but they were prevented by the police.
As they were adamant to enter into the residence of Deputy Chief Minister, police arrested over two dozen Youth Congress activists Satish Sharma, Rajveer Singh, Pankaj Basotra (PYC General Secretaries), Chetan Watchoo, Sandeep Singh, Charanjit Singh, Hoshiyar Singh, Ricky Dalotra, Aijaz Choudhary, Shabir Kohli, Jagjot Singh, Manjit Singh, Lucky Singh, Vijay Magotra, Kunal Kohli, Ravi Kant, Kushwant Singh, Gourav Chopra(DCC General Secretary),Virinder Pratap Singh, Abhinav Sharma, Sailesh Gupta, Divyaansh Jamwal, Vandna Mankho Suman Choudhary, and took them to Canal Road Police Chowki who were detained for two hours.
