It is good to see that Sandeep Patil and his colleagues have displayed no unwanted emotion while leaving out Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Gautam Gambhir and Zaheer Khan from the squad. The selectors have gone by current form and fitness. The dropped players are feisty competitors a team captain would have loved to have. However, they have had their days under the sun, and it was time to make way for the younger lot.
But the omission of Cheteshwar Pujara is surprising because, though moulded in the Test format, he is a player who can give stability to the top batting order in a crisis. However, the biggest challenge for the selectors lies in chopping the list of 30 probables to the all-important 15. They have to take adequate caution to ensure no capable player is left out of the team.
