JAMMU: Even after a heavily armed fidayeen group had managed to expose the multi layered security grid before storming the well fortified artillery unit located on the periphery of Nagrota based 16 Corps Headquarters on November 29, Jammu and Kashmir Police is yet to learn from its past mistakes.
The fact that fidayeen group had managed to pierce the security ring and crossed several check points before climbing the rear portion of the army camp has not motivated the State police to set up security check points even during night hours.
The main check points, entry points remain mostly unguarded along the route during the night, raising question marks why is State police deliberately ignoring the security concerns and not doing enough to beef up the security bandobast.
After Narwal bypass there is no security check point along the Sidhra road leading up to Nagrota bypass. Pitch dark conditions on the isolated road is considered safe haven for anti national elements to use and take advantage before approaching highly sensitive areas near Nagrota garrison.
The policemen present in the area randomly check commercial vehicles and regulate their movement but avoid checking other vehicles.
Similarly, there is no active security check point after Circular Road naka near Jammu Radio Station up to Nagrota by pass.
The two security check points near Narwal by pass bridge and near Sitlee Filtration Plant also remain unguarded during the night. Even in old city area, several vantage locations remain unguarded giving easy access to the anti national elements to carry out their nefarious designs. Coming via Srinagar side of the national highway the security situation is no different. After Ban Toll Plaza there is no significant presence of security personnel, especially in civilian pockets enroute Nagrota. Even at Ban Toll Plaza the security personnel stand guard at a location and no vehicle or passenger is subjected to screening or manual frisking.
