Murder mystery solved after 7 years

RAMBAN: With the arrest of two persons, the police has claimed to solve a seven-year-old murder case which remained shrouded under mystery in this mountainous district.
On 30th July, 2007, Mohmmad Yousuf, a resident of Halla Dhundrath, here lodged a complaint that his cousin identified as Ghulam Qadir was missing for more than a month.
“Investigations were launched after the case was registered, but as there was neither any witness nor any clue, the case remained shrouded in mystery,” a police officer privy to the case said. Later the case was handed over to the SIT.”During the course of investigation we identified an individual who had seen Ghulam Qadir for the last time. On questioning he revealed that he saw three persons going towards Dumni Galli forests,” said Ajay Chib Station House Officer Ramban. The witness further told that after some time he saw only two of them returning. One of the accused identified by the witness was picked up for questioning and during his interrogation he revealed the name of his other accomplice.
“Two of the accused identified as Mohammad Sharieef and Ghulam Nabi were arrested by the police and an FIR was registered against the two. On interrogation they accepted to have killed Ghulam Qadir by pushing him from the cliff in the remote forest,” the SHO said. He said that motive behind the murder was stated to be some property related dispute.
Later clothes and some pieces of bones were recovered from the place where they had pushed the victim.
“The bones and the pieces of the clothes have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for further investigation. The two accused are in police custody and after we get the report from the FSL, they will be produced before a Court,” the officer said. (PTI)
