Movement for Justice of Refugees of 1947 slams BJP for denying package to refugees

JAMMU: Movement for Justice of Refugees of 1947 (MJR–47) on Tuesday slammed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for denying package to refugees from (Pakistan occupied Kashmir) PoK (1947) as well as Chhamb refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971.
In a review meeting of MJR–47’s core committee on the latest political developments here at Miran Sahib, members expressed shock and dismay on BJP’s dilly-dallying policy on providing relief which was recommended by the State government in favour of hapless refugees.
They said that BJP, contrary to its earlier assurances very tactically returned the state recommended package by linking it with West Pakistan refugees knowing well that PoK refugees are the legitimate residents of State and it is the responsibility of government to provide situation relief. The members said that issue of West Pakistan refugees is different as in their case it is question of providing them citizenship in J and K besides adequate relief. “For citizenship of State, constitutional amendment is required which could be accomplished by the union dispensation without the recommendation of State government. By clubbing the issue of PoK or Chhamb refugees with West Pakistan refugees, BJP’s mal-intention has become evident”, the members said.
It was unanimously decided in the meeting that PoK refugees should support only those parties which intend to resolve the issues of this displaced community which is suffering for more than six decades.
