The Monday twin militant attacks in Sopore leaving six killed once again has asserted the point that terror machinery is active and can strike at selected targets keeping security agencies guessing. The unwanted political medelling has worsened the situation. Not to be taken in isolation such incidents remind that the militants are testing the situation ahead of annual Amarnath Yatra when security becomes more daunting by safeguarding civilian lives and keep the continuity of the Yatra. As far as attacking a telecom franchisee is concerned it could be the fallout of a tussle between the operators and militants who wanted to set up special communication equipments on the towers owned by the telecom operators to avoid detection from the security agencies in Valley as reported in media earlier. Of late there were media reports that militants want to hoodwink security agencies by installing these equipments but some of them refused to oblige. Initially these reports looked piece of imagination of a scribe but with Monday’s attack the reality looks quite possible and ascertains that militants and their sympathisers are planning to strike at some selected and high value targets. The militants are taking full advantage of changed political scenario and relaxation in security surveillance. There should be some restrain over the statements issued by the politicians so that such incidents can be avoided. These incidents strengthen the fact how militants are desperate to keep the situation alive. Earlier on 11th May militants targeted a CRPF party leaving two dead and 11 injured in grenade attack. India cannot afford to lower its guard and continue on ‘statement wars’ to fight militants who come from across the borders.
