Man gets 5 years RI for wife’s murder bid

JAMMU: Principal Sessions Judge Jammu R.S Jain on Monday awarded five years rigorous imprisonment and fine Rs 50,000 to one Vinod Kumar, son of Sham Lal, resident of Karwanda Tehsil Jammu who was facing trial in attempt to murder his wife by sprinkling kerosene.
According to the police case against accused Vinod Kumar is that on 30th June, 2004, wireless message was received from PCR, Jammu that one woman Pooja Devi has been admitted in Jammu hospital with burn injuries. ASI Lal Chand reached the hospital and recorded the statement of the woman who stated that while she was sleeping on the rooftop, her husband came there poured kerosene with an intention to murder her and set her on fire. He has been threatening her to burn her. On her raising a hue and cry, number of persons reached the spot.
Accordingly, FIR No. 49/2004 for offence under section 307 RPC was registered in Police Station Gharota against the accused under section 498-A/307 RPC presented the challan against the accused in court.
Principal Sessions Judge Jammu R.S Jain after hearing both the sides observed that the accused has been found guilty in attempting to commit murder of his wife and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 5 years and a fine of Rs. 50,000 under section 307 RPC. The fine if realized will be payable to Pooja Devi. In case of default in payment of fine, accused shall further undergo imprisonment for a period of one year. JNF
