Make Jammu an educational hub: SRS to Centre

JAMMU: Shri Ram Sena (SRS), Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday hailed the Narendra Modi led Central Government for setting up an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Jammu, saying it would go a long way in improving the educational standard in the Jammu region.
“We welcome the decision of the Union Government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi wherein the Cabinet approved the establishment of an IIM in Jammu from the current academic year 2016-17,” State President SRS, Rajiv Mahajan told reporters, here on Tuesday. “It is one more step towards improving the basic infrastructure in the Jammu region and also justifies the stand of the BJP that the commitment of the Prime Minister towards fulfilling the promises of development in all regions of the Jammu and Kashmir State is genuine and sincere,” he said.
Mahajan slammed former Chief Minister and National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah for opposing IIM in Jammu and alleged that he was creating a gap between the two regions of the State for petty politics. He said such initiatives of the Central Government including establishment of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and IIM in Jammu region will promote education sector and expressed hope that full-fledged IIM will be completed within the scheduled time period. “The new projects will pave the way for speedy progress of the Jammu region and generation of employment opportunities for the youth,” he said. Rajiv further said that NIT Srinagar is non-functional for the last more than three months due to unrest in Kashmir Valley which has severely affected the studies of students. He appealed to the Government of India to shift NIT Srinagar to Jammu. Mahajan appealed to the Central Government to make Jammu an educational hub like Pune and Bangalore.
