Major crackdown on illicit distillation;Five arrested; 970 litres Lahan destroyed

KATHUA/SAMBA: Police on Monday arrested five persons who were indulging in illicit distillation and destroyed about 970 liter of Lahan on the spot.
According to a report, a police party of Police Station Kathua and Police Post Nagri headed by Inspector Sarabjeet Singh, SHO Police Station Kathua acting upon specific information, conducted series of raids at Sherpur Badala and Chack Drab Khan and destroyed about 950 liter of Lahan on spot. Police also seized 20 liter of illicit liquor (10 liter each) along with utensils utilised for making illicit liquor from both the accused persons namely Raj Kumar son of Tarsem Lal resident of Sherpur Badala and Kishan Kumar alias Sundi son of Banarsi Dass resident of Chack Drab Khan, Kathua respectively. Accused persons were taken into custody and a case vide FIR No. 96/2017 and 97/2017 under section 48(E) Excise Act was registered against them at Police Station Kathua.
Meanwhile, District Special Branch Samba in collaboration with police party led by SHO Police Station Ghagwal conducted a raid at Village Dessian and apprehended one Parshotam Singh Lalotra son of Jaimal Singh at his home and recovered 10 liter of desi liquor, besides 20 Liters of Lahan as well as the other material for preparing illicit liquor also been recovered and seized on spot from the said person . Police arrested the said accused person and a vide case FIR No. 30/2017 under section 48 Excise Act has been registered in Police Station Ghagwal and investigation in going on.
In another case, a Police party of Police Station Ramgarh headed by SI Bansi Lal SHO Police Station Ramgarh conducted excise raids in the villages of Randma and Rarian in the Ramgarh area and nabbed two persons namely Joginder Singh son of Kewal Kumar resident of Randma and Kashmir Singh son of Rattan Singh resident of Rara and recovered two litres of licit liquor from Joginder Siongh and 46 pouches of illicit liquor (180 ml) and 11 pouches of illicit liquor (of 250 ml) from their possessions respectively.
In this regard case two separate case vide FIR Nos.12/2017 and 13/2017 under section 48/Excise Act were registered against the said accused persons at Police Station Ramgarh.
