Dear Editor,
These days a father advises young women to conduct themselves well to avoid untoward incidents and not expose themselves to undue risk. He is right. Indian society needs to unlearn old mindsets and come to terms with the changed aspirations of women. They should not be denied the right to dress, celebrate and lead a full and free life. At the same time, women must not forget that empowerment does not mean wearing less clothes and drinking in pubs late into the night. They should stand against violence and exploitation, identify their strengths and move towards
empowerment.
