Language row
Dear Editor,
Nehru had stressed that a child had the natural capacity to learn several languages along with mother tongue. The recent diktats by an RSS affiliated education society to the HRD Ministry about discouraging any foreign language as an alternative to mother tongue is an undemocratic and a retrogressive act. Surely members of such ‘Sanskriti’ societies send their children to English-medium schools. We need to pursue modern science for competing with developed countries. HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar may be more amenable to the ground realities and the significance of learning more languages. To maintain our edge over other Asian countries in the global employment market, we will have to keep insular institutions at bay.
