Landslide victims of 2014 await compensation

UDHAMPUR: Half a dozen families of village Pakhlai, district Udhampur whose houses and land were totally destroyed during the land slide in September, 2014 are still without compensation for construction of their shelters and generate a source of income to make their both ends meet. The families of Kaku Ram, Hem Raj, Romesh, Subash Sharma, Ganesh Kumar and Dev Raj continued visiting the Office of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur but they have not been given the due compensation while contrary to this all the claims of people in Kashmir have been cleared by giving them handsome amount. They pointed out that even the influential people here in Udhampur also have been given Rs 1,70,000 and more when their loss was for meager amount but in the case of these families, who have suffered 100 per cent loss, the assessment has already been given to the Revenue authorities but are still awaiting compensation.
These families have appealed to the Prime Minister Narendera Modi and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti who are liberally helping the poor, look into their case and issue suitable instructions to give them the compensation as given to others.
