KU Council Meeting Review projects to ensure completion within prescribed time limit: Governor

SRINAGAR: Governor N.N Vohra, who is also Chancellor of the Kashmir University, advised the Vice Chancellor to undertake regular critical review of all the ongoing research projects to ensure that every project is completed well in time and yields the envisaged outcome. He said this while reviewing the ongoing research projects of the Kashmir University (KU) at the meeting of the University Council held here, yesterday.
The Governor emphasised the importance of quality research to maintain high standards of scholars and the Institute.
The Governor also stressed the importance of bringing out quality research related publications in leading journals of international repute.
While reviewing the status of the ongoing infrastructure development projects in the different campuses of the university, it was informed that the South and North Campuses have been made functional while construction work is in progress at Kupwara and almost completed at the Kargil and the Leh Campuses of the University.
The Council approved the adoption of UGC guidelines regarding specifications and nomenclature of degrees at all levels of higher education.
Taking into account the damages caused to the infrastructure of Higher Education in the State by the floods and consequent loss of class work, the Council approved conduct of annual examinations for under graduate classes in Kashmir Division and Winter Zone of Jammu Division in March 2015 instead of in Oct-Nov, 2014. The Council also approved the Integrated Masters Programmes to be launched at Kupwara, Leh and Kargil campuses.
Prof. Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, made a presentation on the status of various ongoing research and infrastructure related projects and those in the pipeline, achievements of the University in varied fields since the last meeting of the Council, introduction of various new courses, status of filling up teaching and non-teaching positions in the University etc.
Present in the meeting were Mohd. Akbar Lone, Minister for Higher Education; R.P Agarwal, former Secretary, MHRD, GoI; Prof. M.P.S Ishar, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University; B.R Sharma, Principal Secretary Planning and Development Department; B.B Vyas, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and Principal Secretary, Finance; Rakesh Gupta, Principal Secretary to the Governor; Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad, Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department; Prof. Neelofar Hassan Khan, Dean Students Welfare, Kashmir University; Prof. Yasmin Kawoos, Principal, Government Degree College, Bemina; Prof. Nasreen Malik, Principal, Government Degree College, Ganderbal; Prof. N.A Rather, Dean, Faculty of Physical and Material Science, KU; Prof. Akbar Masood, Dean, Faculty of Biological Sciences, KU; and Prof. Zafar Ahmad, Registrar, Kashmir University.
