KALAKOT: A social and political activist, Abdul Gani Kohli on Sunday visited several flood and landslide affected areas of Kalakot and took stock of situation in the area where administration and army are trying to provide relief to the people.
Kohli also met several people and heard their plight and has urged the administration to speed up the relief work in the area, especially food grains and tents so that people are able to survive.
Kohli visited Dalogra, Androla, Poth and surrounding villages to assess the situation arising after the devastation caused by the landslides and floods. “Hundreds of people have been displaced due to the recent rain fall and there has been devastation in the entire Rajouri District. Administration has to speed up the relief process”, Kohli said.
This region suffered maximum number of casualties in last one week but no one visited to hear the cries of the people. The State witnessed the most devastating flood and it caused loss to almost every region.
Kohli said that several hundred homes have been damaged in the area and it will take years before life will become normal. “In every village eight to 10 houses have been damaged. Though the army has provided tents at several areas, but still lot needs to be done to help people again rebuilt their lives”, he said.
He highlighted that in absence of communication system and due to tough terrain some areas are still inaccessible for administration and media where nature has shown its cruel face more when compared with parts of the State.
He highlighted that ex-gratia relief should be given to the people on priority for construction of their houses and for losses to their crops and animals. He also demanded government service for the next of kith and kins of those who were killed in different accidents under the provisions of SRO 43.
