Dear Editor,
This refers to your report ‘India needs more scientists to harness technology: PM’ (ST- Feb 27). India has to put much more human efforts in science research. Progress could be achieved only through effective institution-industry tie-up and more research and development work. The government’s ambition should be that more and more Indian universities should be in top 100 global institutions. Our scientists need to work hard with dedication if they do not want to “lose out” on unprecedented changes. Innovative ideas and creativity should be appreciated at the school level by the teachers then only we can expect interest for scientific research in the students. Women must be encouraged to opt for research so that the growing demand for scientific manpower can be met. The faculty and higher educational institutions should encourage students to undertake research, offer them the opportunity, create the right ambience, and give guidance.
