Kalakote Clash: NC objects Section 307 against trouble mongers, threatens protest

JAMMU: In the aftermath of clash between rival BJP and National Conference in Kalakote, police on Wednesday constituted three-member Special Investigation Team (sit) to probe the reason while at least 17 ‘trouble mongers’ have also been booked on a written complaint lodged by the BJP.
However, the opposition National Conference has objected to incorporation of Section 307 of Ranbir penal Code in the FIR lodged against the activists and threatened protests if ‘innocents’ are booked.
According to sources, former NC MLA Kalakote Rashpal Singh, whose brother Randhir Singh and son Yashvardhan were among booked by the police, has warned them of dire consequences besides agitation if the NC workers are booked under Section 307 of RPC.
Meanwhile three member SIT headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police has been constituted to probe the clashes broken out on Tuesday in Kalakote, a senior police official here said.
He said that the SIT comprises SDPO Manjakote DySP Zakir Shaheen Mirza, SHO Nowshera Mohammad Bashir and Sub Inspector Navneet Kumar, posted at Kalakote Police Station.
The police official said that on a written complaint lodged by the activists of BJP, at least 17 persons, who triggered the trouble, are being booked including the brother, son and nephew of former MLA Kalakote and National Conference leader.
Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Shabir Ahmed Bhat said that situation in the area is under control while Section 144 will remain in force and will be lifted on Thursday only after reviewing the situation.
The District Administration had imposed Section 144 sensing trouble post clash between rival parties.
The Administration had ordered closure of all the schools and colleges of Kalakote area in view of Section 144 imposed in municipal jurisdiction of Kalakote.
“To prevent any tension further, Section 144 has been imposed as preventive measures,” they added.
BJP and NC activists on Tuesday clashed over creation of new wards ahead of Panchayat Polls scheduled to be held in March.
NC workers objected to the move of PDP-BJP government following which clash broke out in which at least eight people, including the PRO of a senior BJP Minister suffered injuries.
Meanwhile, five people were also detained on Tuesday and case was registered.

NC, PDP workers clash
Jammu: Activists of National Conference (NC) and ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday clashed in Bhaderwah tehsil of Doda District.
“National Conference and PDP workers clashed in Bhaderwah in which one NC worker got injured and was shifted to Government Medial College and Hospital Jammu,” police sources said.
According to an eye witness, NC workers were attending a Gram Sabha at Panchayat Kulsari in Ward Number 2 on delimitation of Panchayat but PDP workers from Ward Number 4 also reached on the spot following which they had a verbal duel.
