JU men set to qualify for knockout round of All India Inter-Zonal Universities Handball Tournament

JAMMU: With four points to their credit, earned out of two league outings on the opening day on Sunday, hosts University of Jammu (JU) men are sure to find a berth in the knock-out round of the All India Inter-Zonal Universities Handball Tournament being held under the banner of Association of Indian Universities (AIU) on the JU campus, here.
Earlier, in the first league match, JU got walkover Madurai Kamaraj University. Later, in their second league match, JU defeated Pt. RSS University, Raipur 34-29. In the second match, Sahil netted highest 11 goals while star striker, Rahul Sharma added 10.
Now, in the third and last league engagement of group-A wherein four teams have been placed, JU shall take on Solarpur University, Solarpur on Monday.
Earlier, the tournament was declared open by Director General of J and K Police, K Rajendra Kumar in a well attended function on the campus this morning. He complimented and appreciated the JU for hosting such a big event on the campus.
Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu, Prof R.D Sharma presided. He lauded the role of different organisations for extending a helping hand in making the events on the campus a success.
Today’s matches were officiated by the technical penal comprising Dev Raj, Sanjeev Singh, Kapil Sagotra, Govind Ram, Gourav Sharma, Vikas Sharma, Karun Magotra, Kartar Dogra, Lakhwhinder Singh, Kaushal Dikshit, Priya Charak, Ashish, Prabhleen Kour, Pooja Sharma, Jeevenjot and Reva Rajput.

MEN: LNIPE Gwalior beat Periyar University Salem 36-32; University of Jammu (JU) got walkover Maduri Kamaraj University; Solapur University, Solapur defeated Pt. RSS University, Raipur 35–24; Panjab University (PU) Chandigarh 38-25; RTMNU Nagpur trounced BHU Varanasi 42-17; PU Patiala blanked University of Calicut 32-24; VBSPU Jaunpur defeated Kurukshetra University Kurukshetra 46-45; Bharti Vidyapeeth, Pune beat Anna University, Chennai 38-37; JU downed Pt RSS University, Raipur 34-29.
WOMEN: Lovely Professional University (LPU) beat Kannur University 27–20; Punjabi University (PU), Patiala defeated University of Calicut 30-17; University of Mumbai blanked Manipur University 19–11; LNIPE Gwalior downed Periyar University, Salem 16–15; PU Chandigarh defeated DDU Gorkhpur 27-08; RTMNU Nagpur trounced VBSPU Jaunpur 20-03; Delhi University outplayed Pt. RSS University, Raipur 33-20; SGM Amarawati University got walkover Bharathidasan University.
