JSS Jammu advocates sustainable development goals by pioneering Global Sustainability Fest 2024

JAMMU: Jammu Sanskriti School (JSS), Jammu hosted first of its kind a groundbreaking Global Sustainability Fest aimed at raising awareness and promoting action towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event brought together students, educators, community leaders, and sustainability experts to discuss and collaborate on solutions to global challenges. The Fest marked the commencement in the presence of Dr Ashok Pandey- An education leader and Innovator who was the Keynote speaker of the day, deliberated on how can we bring SDG Goals into action and thereby bringing them into reality, Khalid Jhangir, Managing Director, J&K Trade Organisation, Prof Yashpal Sharma-Professor in Department of Botany, JU, Dr Amandeep Kour Anand-MD, MAMS, FICOG, FICS, CIMP, RCOG Associate Consultant Gynecologist & HOD DNB OBGYN Government Gandhi Nagar Hospital, Directorate of Health Services, Jammu, Dr Roopali Slathia-Physical Director – GDC RS Pura , Dr Alka Sharma – Educationist, State Anchor were the panelists who promulgated the sustainability in different aspects of life. Principals from different schools were also the part of this Fest.

The Fest marked its beginning with traditional lamp lighting ceremony, followed by myriad cultural events on theme sustainability ensued by panel discussion. The exhibition put up by different schools was inaugurated by watering 17 potted plants representing 17 SDG goals by the dignitaries. Students from JSS Jammu and other CBSE schools of Jammu namely Model Academy, APS BD Bari, APS Miran Sahib, APS Jammu Cantt., IDPS Jammu, KC International, Jammu Sanskriti School Kathua, Kartar Public School, Kathua, exhibited and portrayed how well sustainability can be achieved by showcasing their 17 SDG goals in a diligent manner which was appreciated by keynote speaker and other panelists. Rohini Aima-Principal Cum Vice-Chairperson of JSS, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “The Global Sustainability Fest underscores our school’s commitment to nurturing responsible global citizens who are passionate about creating positive change. By empowering our students to understand and act upon the SDGs, we are fostering a culture of sustainability and social responsibility.” The management of the school conveyed their best wishes and appreciation to students and faculty. The notion was conceived by Rohini Aima – Principal Cum Vice-Chairperson to create a mass awareness about how our youth can play a crucial role in achieving sustainability. The vote of thanks was presented by Avneet Kour Budhraja – the Vice principal of the school.
