JAMMU: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Monday initiated a drive to remove un-authorized hoardings here at Panama Chowk.
The rigorous action was carried out by Enforcement Wing under the direction of JMC Commissioner, Mandeep Kour and Joint Commissioner JMC, R.S Jamwal.
Giving details to STATE TIMES, JMC Commissioner Mandeep Kour divulged that 47 unauthorised hoardings were removed during the drive. She said that these hoardings falling in the Ward Nos 1 to 48 were put up by Super Publicity Private Limited who possesses advertising rights only for Ward Nos 49 to 71.
“Our team after giving ample chance to this agency for removing the aforesaid hoardings, started the drive to clear the area from unauthorized hoardings”, she said adding that JMC will soon cancel the contract with Super Publicity Private Limited which has taken stay from the High Court. She asserted that in this regard, JMC will first go out to get the said stay vacated before annulling the contract.”
Joint Commissioner JMC, R.S Jamwal said that the Municipal Corporation Act debars any person or agency from exhibiting or erecting advertisements within the territorial limits of the Corporation without proper authorisation.
“Due to widespread violations of this Act, the said drive was carried out for strictly enforcing the provisions of the Act,” he maintained.
The Corporation has once again appealed to the people not to erect any advertisement within its jurisdiction as it will invite action under law.
